CRIME NEWS

  • Jlon Johnson, charged in the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Devaughn Morgan on July 18, will not use an insanity plea after his attorney Michael Vincent— a former Ypsilanti police officer—determined the defense was not viable.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MDOT officials said Ann Arbor’s M-14 bridge over the Huron River and Barton Road needs a $150 million replacement because its 1956 design has passed its service life — over 100 state bridges are at risk of closure by 2035 if funding is not secured.  MLive
  • U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib and University of Michigan alumna Eaman Ali held a press conference outside the Ruthven Administration building on August 27th to denounce the disciplinary actions taken against pro-Palestinian protesters—including Ali’s firing as a student employee—while university officials defended their policy for safe and orderly protests.  MLive
  • Crews in Pittsfield Township are testing nearly one mile of Ellsworth Road with a new rubber asphalt made from scrap tires. The project—a partnership between Michigan Technological University, Washtenaw County Road Commission and EGLE—aims to improve road durability, reduce cracks and lower noise to guide future repairs.  WXYZ

  • Bill’s Beer Garden in Ann Arbor currently serves Bill’s Pils Shandy—made with 25% fresh lemonade and a crisp Northern Michigan pilsner—to give locals a taste of summer before autumn.
