- ➤ Artists from across Michigan will turn Main Street into an open-air gallery on Friday, Sept. 12 as Ann Arbor hosts its first-ever Street Art Encounter—featuring live mural painting, interactive installations, live music and in-street dining. The free event, presented by the Main Street Area Association, invites families to enjoy art and community fun—highlighting work by lead artist John Vasquez from Saginaw. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A lawsuit filed by local families to stop rebuilds of Thurston and Logan elementaries was dismissed by Washtenaw County Circuit Court—construction continues at these schools with work already underway near Clague Middle School. Another complaint from environmental advocates on an AAPS bond project is set for a status hearing in October. MLive
- ➤ Six Michigan colleges ranked in the top 200 for business in Niche’s 2026 list. The University of Michigan leads with a national ranking of 11—Michigan State University and Cleary University also ranked high after student reviews and research spending were considered. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ann Arbor officials are considering a revised Downtown Development Authority plan that limits expansion to the north after meetings led to scaling back the initial proposal, aiming to strengthen key downtown gateways. The updated plan—designed to secure tax revenue for projects such as bus rapid transit and streetscape improvements—will be reviewed by City Council, with parts of its 30-year development plan already outlined.
