- ➤ Neighborhood Week runs from Sept 14 to Sept 20 and brings free workshops, lectures and public meetings on housing, transportation and land use in Ann Arbor. Organized by local groups — Neighborhood Institute, Neighbors for More Neighbors A2 and the UM Urbanism Club — the series addresses issues of high housing costs and traffic as the city shapes a new growth plan. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Even Hotel at 600 Briarwood Circle in Ann Arbor was evacuated Saturday evening after high carbon monoxide levels were detected — no one was injured and guests were allowed to return when air quality returned to normal. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ New rules for student discipline are in place at the University of Michigan, which include updates to the Student Rights and Responsibilities and the creation of the Office of Student Accountability—changes that have angered faculty and student leaders as the Regents now have personal authority in cases. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Ann Arbor City Council voted 10—0 to let City Administrator Milton Dohoney negotiate with developers to pursue two offers on downtown city-owned properties, including 415 W. Washington St. MLive
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Eastern Michigan University graduate student Max Morefield developed KISS—an app that lets users alert partners if they test positive for an infection and gives safe sex tips after scanning a QR code. Since its May launch, the app has attracted about 400 users and will soon add verified test results and expand globally. MLive
