CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A colorful mural by Christian Stanley is now on display at Liberty Plaza in downtown Ann Arbor. The artwork (featuring acorns, oak leaves, trees, musical notes, picnic tables, and Huron River paddle culture) has drawn praise from local viewers. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At the UM Board meeting on Sept. 18, interim president Domenico Grasso announced a $50M plan to launch a civil discourse center that will open next spring across campus sites—designed for open discussion. He also condemned hateful social media posts following the killing of Charlie Kirk on Sept. 10 and said violence is never the answer. MLive
- ➤ University of Michigan approved a lease for 10 years and $16.5M in upgrades for a second-floor space at 401 E. Liberty St. that was vacated by Coupa LLamasoft on September 18th and will be completed by fall 2026—businesses in the building will remain open. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Six protesters received trespass notices and are banned from University of Michigan property for one year after a demonstration against the school’s Los Alamos partnership for a new high-performance computer center. Protesters called the event a theater performance — university officials said the bans were due to safety concerns and unauthorized building access. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor officials approved a $2.5M renovation of the Miller Road election center that will create space for secure vote counting and a community television studio—also adding a new economic development office. The project uses a $1.4M state grant along with funds from climate-action, the general fund, and CTN sources. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor’s sustainability office invites community members to submit name ideas for the new mobile solar power station—an innovative climate resilience trailer that converts from truck-towed equipment to a working nanogrid—to support the city’s clean energy goals. MLive
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Michigan Wolverines offensive line coach Grant Newsome said his team will use depth and physicality to face Nebraska at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 20.
