BUSINESS NEWS

  • Target has issued nationwide recalls on three products including Anker power banks that may overheat and cause burns, pasta that may have hidden milk or cashew allergens, and burrito bowls that could contain shrimp—affecting about 481,000 power banks and 57,240 burrito bowls—and urges customers to check their purchases immediately.  MLive
  • Starbucks announced it will close over 100 coffeehouses and cut 900 non-retail jobs as part of its restructuring plan—employees affected will be notified this morning and offered transfers or severance packages. The company said the review of its portfolio led to these measures to strengthen future operations.  MLive
  • The Real Seafood Co. in downtown Ann Arbor has operated for 50 years — changing conditions raise concerns about its future and potential departure.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Parking will be tight tomorrow for the concert at Michigan Stadium as University reserved lots, church parking and private sites charge between $50 and $120 for spaces; fans can reserve spots online or buy passes that day—public transit via TheRide is also an option—to reach Zach Bryan and John Mayer’s show.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A former district foreman from the county road commission filed a federal lawsuit on Sept 2—alleging his firing was retaliatory, but county officials said they terminated him for performance issues. The case is being heard in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.  MLive
  • State lawmakers advanced a bill to require jail time for drivers who flee police during serious chases. The law would set jail times for crashes or injuries—60 people died in police chases in Michigan between 2017 and 2021—and lawmakers say it will help keep roads safer.  MLive

  • Fans heading to tomorrow's Michigan Stadium concert by Zach Bryan and John Mayer can pick from five Ann Arbor spots—Union Rec, Side Biscuit, Casa Dominick’s, Old Town Tavern, and First Bite—that serve tasty meals before the show.
