ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Juicy Kitchen, an Ann Arbor restaurant on N. Maple Rd., was damaged when its freezer caught fire on Sept. 17—repairs continue as it plans to reopen in early December.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Zach Bryan, a Grammy-winning country singer and Navy veteran, released a clip of his new song on October 3rd that warned ICE would bust down your door after his record-setting concert at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on September 27th. His lyrics criticize immigration policies—adding to ongoing national protests and debates.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Ann Arbor City Council approved a $476K contract with Margolis Nursery to plant 1,000 new trees on city streets this fall and spring. The project will plant trees along routes marked in pink as part of the Tree Town plan—expanding the city's green spaces.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative received $1M from the state budget to continue development of the 45-mile Washtenaw County Border-to-Border Trail — less than seven miles remain to be built. Lawmakers secured the funds after lengthy budget negotiations.  MLive
  • Ann Arbor is upgrading its sewer system with a $23M project to support UM’s new Central Campus dorms by installing over 1,500 feet of sewer lines+ work will begin in November and run until next August. The university will cover over $16M+ while the city pays nearly $7M for the upgrade.  MLive
  • Ann Arbor Planning Commission voted 8—0 on Oct. 7 to send a near-final draft of the comprehensive growth plan to City Council after nearly four hours of public discussion that raised issues like bringing snacks and tailgating to City Hall. City Council will vote on Oct. 20 to begin a formal 63-day public review period where residents can share their views.  MLive
  • Ann Arbor City Council voted to require Spin scooters to add a sobriety test for nighttime riders after a fatal scooter crash in 2023 and a severe crash last September. Police said impaired riders will face the same treatment as drunk drivers—though they have not yet detailed how the rule will be enforced.  WXYZ
