ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Ann Arbor has seen more pedestrians injured and killed in crashes in 2025 than any full year since 2014—2 fatalities and 11 serious injuries—prompting advocates to warn officials that the city’s Vision Zero goal remains unmet. MLive
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ On Sept 4 the Brown Jug in Ann Arbor served its Buckeye Tears beer and replied to a trademark challenge from Ohio State, saying no one would mistake it for an Ohio product—adding that legal proceedings will continue into 2027. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, Oct. 7, over 100 students gathered at the Diag for a vigil to remember the victims of the Oct. 7 attack while another group protested UM's alleged financial ties to Israel at Regents Plaza—police monitored both events and no arrests were made. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pure Michigan reported that many areas in our state are experiencing vibrant fall colors with some regions nearing their peak and others still increasing. Ann Arbor is expected to reach 20 to 40 percent fall foliage later while parts of the Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan already show strong color — extending the season for residents to enjoy the change. FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Geoffrey Chatas, the University of Michigan chief financial officer, will leave in late October to become Yale University's senior vice president of operations—Bobby Hewlett will serve as interim CFO starting November 1. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On October 8, a federal judge ruled that EPA attorneys must keep working on the Flint water crisis lawsuit despite the government shutdown. EPA had sought a delay due to furloughs — but the judge said both the residents and the agency deserve a prompt resolution. MLive
- ➤ Four candidates are running for three Chelsea City Council seats on Nov. 4, including incumbent Tony Iannelli and challengers Sam Angus, William O’Reilly, and Felix Stump (non-partisan). Voters will choose council members for a four-year term in the city west of Ann Arbor. MLive
- ➤ Voters in the Chelsea Area Fire Authority’s area will vote on Nov 4 to decide whether to raise property taxes by 0.75 mills to fund new firefighter and paramedic hires, vehicles, and equipment. The increase is estimated to add about $983,000 in its first year—supporting improved emergency services and a better adherence to safety guidelines—before expiring in 2028. MLive
- ➤ Voters in Chelsea will elect a new mayor on Nov. 4 in a non-partisan race for a four-year term—Julianne Chard and Kate Henson are the candidates. MLive
