BUSINESS NEWS

  • ALDI is offering a $40 Thanksgiving feast that includes a 14-pound turkey and nine sides to feed 10 people—available for purchase through Christmas Eve as prices for staples rise.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nine Michigan universities were featured on WalletHub’s new list of the best schools, with the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor ranking highest from the state at 37th nationally. Calvin University ranked 162nd and the University of Michigan-Dearborn was recognized for its affordability.  All About Ann Arbor
  • Nine inmates at Washtenaw County Jail graduated today as part of the official launch of the IGNITE education program—earning high school diplomas or GEDs during the jail's first graduation ceremony.  MLive
  • Yesterday, the University of Michigan Board of Regents voted to restore the appeals board for student discipline at a meeting in Flint. The board—composed of one student, one faculty member, and one administrator—will have seven academic calendar days to review cases and issue recommendations to the Vice President for Student Life.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Michigan officials will host Microplastics Awareness Week from Oct. 19 to 26 to teach residents about pollution from small plastic pieces in lakes, rivers + drinking water. The campaign will offer education resources, a cleanup in Lansing and a virtual summit on Oct. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for scientists, policymakers and community members to discuss water safety.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washtenaw County now provides free rides for residents 60 and older through three transportation providers after county officials funded $1 million from a new voter-approved millage. Seniors can request these rides to improve mobility and access to important services.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • After 450 days at Mott Children’s Hospital, baby Xander, 15 months old, came home to Flat Rock with his family. He has had several surgeries for trisomy 18 (a rare gene condition) and now needs extra pressure for breathing at home.  All About Ann Arbor

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan Wolverines special teams coordinator J.B. Brown said the team is making changes ahead of tomorrow’s game against the Washington Huskies by working on punts, kicks, and returns. He said punter Hudson Hollenbeck is moving into a starting role—an effort that will boost the team's performance in upcoming games.  All About Ann Arbor
  • Michigan Wolverines offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey said that tight ends such as Hogan Hansen, Marlin Klein and Zack Marshall will have increased roles — with freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood working to refine his footwork ahead of the Washington game tomorrow at noon in the Big House — as he added that the team is focusing on third-down efficiency and situational play during practice.  All About Ann Arbor
