EDUCATION NEWS

  • Voters in the Stockbridge school district approved a 15‑year $15 million bond to fund major school updates such as roof replacements, plumbing upgrades, repaved parking lots and renovations. The measure passed with 1,042 votes to 857 on November 4 and will keep the tax rate at 3.3 mills across parts of Ingham, Jackson, Livingston and Washtenaw counties.  MLive
  • The University of Michigan launched a nationwide search for a new permanent dearborn chancellor. Interim President Domenico Grasso appointed a 16-member committee that will hold town halls on November 17—19 to gather community input for the selection process.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Nov. 3, 2018, Michigan's EGLE director Phillip Roos sent a letter to the EPA asking it to speed up the Superfund listing process to address a toxic plume near Ann Arbor—a persistent threat to public health.  MLive
  • Ann Arbor has awarded $17 million in grants to help make the Bryant neighborhood carbon neutral — the project has already seen solar panels installed on homes and will add more upgrades as it continues. The city plans further improvements to reduce carbon use and boost local sustainability.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A proposed massive data center project in Saline Township has split the community as DTE Energy asks state regulators to bypass public hearings so that construction can start soon. The project, backed by Related Companies+Oracle and OpenAI, would bring jobs and tax revenue but has many residents worried about lower property values.  WXYZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A five‐story apartment building called The Crescent with 262 units was approved for construction at 2525 Ann Arbor‐Saline Road next to Whole Foods and REI and will begin next spring. Some neighbors worry the tall building may add traffic—city staff said new crosswalks and access drive changes will help keep pedestrians safe.  MLive
