- ➤ Alpha House East, a new temporary shelter for families facing homelessness, has opened on the Trinity Health Ann Arbor campus in a renovated former nursing home. Trinity Health leased the building to Alpha House for $1 a year while the project received $1.7 million in public funding for renovations and improvements. MLive
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Michigan Auto Law’s 2024 report showed that the North Hamilton and Washtenaw intersection in Ypsilanti was the county’s most dangerous spot with 132 crashes and seven injuries, marking its first time on the list—State Street and Ellsworth Road roundabout, which borders Ann Arbor and Pittsfield Township, ranked second with crashes dropping from 126 to 85 and five injuries recorded in both years. - ➤ JD’s Stage Bistro is under construction at 117 1/2 S. Main Street in Chelsea—Tannin Property Group and actor Jeff Daniels are building this new music venue and restaurant that will seat 100 and feature a wood-fired pizza oven, cocktail bar, patio and private event spaces, with an opening planned for spring. - ➤ The Michigan mall developer Taubman Centers, which built Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor and other centers, sold its last 22 shopping centers to Simon Property Group and will close its Bloomfield Hills headquarters. The company will lay off 105 workers beginning Jan 9—an action following its sale of 80% of its assets in 2020. MLive

- ➤ Andrew Rogers, the Michigan Theater organist known for his music and kind personality, died November 13 at his home in Fenton from a heart issue. A memorial concert is scheduled for December 4 to honor his legacy (including his famous dad jokes) and support his wish that donations be made to help the theater. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials in Ypsilanti are considering a proposal to create a social district in Depot Town that would let people drink outdoors in marked common areas with rules such as limiting drink cups to non-glass sizes and operating hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.—the plan would let seven licensed businesses apply for permits, but a vote on it was postponed on November 18. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Patients and families at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor enjoyed a mini-Thanksgiving parade on Tuesday as Santa Claus led a procession around the 12th floor. The parade included Detroit Tigers mascot Paws, hospital mascot Motty, and therapy dog Barney, and donations for the Mott Toy Store remain open until Dec. 12. MLive
