Many of the University of Michigan's over 8,000 international students did not travel home for Thanksgiving (due to short breaks, long distances and high flight costs).
They stayed on campus and joined events including a Thanksgiving lunch organized by the International Center (a key gathering for international students) and planned Black Friday outings with friends.
Sean Sabo, an advanced placement English and acting teacher at Pioneer High School, won a state Excellence in Education award for his work boosting student writing and thinking skills—he will receive a $2,000 cash prize and may also be in line for a $10,000 Educator of the Year award.
