  • A new study finds Michigan drivers are the nation's safest with only 20.9 incidents per 1,000 drivers + experts credit strong driver education and strict enforcement for the low rates. The report compared Michigan to Florida and Colorado, noting that varied road experiences and solid investments help build safe driving habits.  ClickOnDetroit.com
  • On Giving Tuesday, Dec. 2, Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan raised $34,494 to fund a new certified therapeutic recreation specialist position at UM Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, surpassing its $30,000 goal & raising more than last year’s total.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At the Oct. 18 Michigan vs. Washington game, over 110,000 fans, students and partners set a world record at Michigan Stadium by collecting 23.5 tons of recycled materials during the Recycle Bowl, surpassing last year’s 22 tons, according to a Nov. 19 press release.  MLive

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Ann Arbor’s Planning Commission held a public hearing Tuesday night, Dec. 2 on rezoning a 1.2-acre site at 700 N. Main St. The proposed project would be a six-story residential building with 64 apartments, pending a complete zoning application.  MLive

  • The Michigan Wolverines fired special teams coach J.B. Brown on Dec. 3 after two seasons in that role and five years with the team. Head coach Sherrone Moore explained the change was needed after inconsistent performance as the school prepares to name a new coach soon.  All About Ann Arbor
