A fire broke out in an apartment unit at Haven of Ann Arbor on Sunday, Dec.
21, causing six units to sustain fire damage—displacing six residents while multiple crews responded and one firefighter received minor injuries.
On Dec. 22, several trees were cut down at downtown Liberty Plaza at the corner of Liberty and Division, leaving stumps and sawdust.
City officials have not explained the removals—local environmental advocates say the loss reduces much-needed shade in the plaza.
Six residents filed a suit on Dec.
15 in Washtenaw County to stop the Vella Pit gravel mine on Earhart Road from operating until proper permits are issued, alleging violations of state environmental law and harm to local water resources (including Massey Lake’s Pond 3).
On Tuesday, Dec. 16, the city Planning Commission reviewed a rezoning proposal for The Brady high-rise (414 S.
Main St.) that would allow temporary rentals or a hotel while it continues as luxury apartments. Developers said they want to keep options open for its future use.
