About this event
“Boundaries are gratitude.” — Brené Brown
“ A boundary is about only this: What is and is not okay with you. No one else has any say in that. Period.” — Carolyn Hax
Gathering for a feast with family is a gift. . . and can be hard. Setting boundaries takes practice. So does writing, and the rewards from taking the time to do both are abundant.
On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, join WCC Creative Writing Instructor, Amy Higgins, in a guided practice of boundaries and gratitude. You’ll also take home a related craft idea for your next gathering!
This two-hour workshop has three parts:
1) Guided by tips from Carolyn Hax and Brené Brown, we’ll write to set boundaries with grace and humor. Yours might be an answer to Uncle Harold’s insistence that you “get to reproducing,’ girl.” Mine might be an empathetic challenge to the friend who thinks “insane asylum” is a hilarious Halloween décor theme.
2) With some writerly examples as springboard, you’ll draft a poem, humorous essay, or (overdue?) thank you letter for someone (or ones) dear to you. The time is now.
3) Group Gratitude: This craft that’s easy to share with a large group makes expressing gratitude personal and natural.
