Gary Nikkila died on April 15 in Ann Arbor when he was struck by his gravel hauler while reconnecting its trailer near Pauline Boulevard and Hutchins Avenue—police are investigating the crash as his family remembers him for his humor and trivia skill.

City Council accepted a $200,000 state grant on May 19 for the FAST project to improve Fourth Avenue between William and Liberty (the grant is from MDOT).

The project will add new bus stops, widened sidewalks and new lighting and is expected to cost over $8 million with work planned to start in 2026 (Downtown Development Authority leads the plan).
