CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Anthony Flanagan, accused of fatally stabbing Susan Hammerton in her Pittsfield Township home, will undergo additional psychiatric testing ordered on June 3 by Washtenaw County Trial Court Judge Carol Kuhnke + previous tests showed he can understand court proceedings while his sanity at the time of the killing remains in question. - ➤ Jovaughn London Smith, a 20-year-old man, waived his right to a preliminary examination on June 17 and will stand trial on two felonies in Washtenaw County Trial Court for a drunken driving crash that killed his former football teammate—charges include operating while intoxicated causing death and operating while intoxicated causing serious injury. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On June 6, the city's parks department used a lethal trap—banned four years ago—to remove dam-building beavers from a creek at Leslie Park Golf Course. The department worked with the county water resources office as it weighed both lethal and nonlethal solutions. MLive

- ➤ Ann Arbor City Council approved a green rental housing ordinance Monday, June 16 to boost energy efficiency in rental properties—landlords warn the new rules may lead to higher rents. MLive
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Doctors at Trinity Health Ann Arbor warned that if an $800 billion Medicaid cut passes, mothers, seniors and people with disabilities may lose well-child visits and key services—forcing more people to use already crowded emergency rooms. MLive
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The Ann Arbor Planning Commission approved final plans for Arbor South — a $469 million mixed-use development — on Tuesday evening. The project will convert a large parking area into community space and add over 1,000 residential units near State Street and Eisenhower Parkway. MLive
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Michigan football signed veteran transfer quarterback Jake Garcia on Monday—adding depth to its lineup for the upcoming season. He is a fifth-year player from Whittier, Calif. who started six games at East Carolina last season and will compete for a backup role in an uncertain quarterback room. MLive
- ➤ The Wolverines have two top-10 offensive line recruits among the 2025 freshmen — Andrew Babalola, the highest-rated recruit, and Ty Haywood, who is expected to help build a stronger line next season. Coach Sherrone Moore plans to use these talents to improve the team’s play. MLive
