- ➤ A study finds that Ann Arbor drivers lose about $1,506 a year from bad roads, heavy traffic, and crashes—these issues cost Michigan drivers billions in total. The study shows that the loss in Ann Arbor is lower than in many other big cities in the state. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan Department of Natural Resources confirmed the first cases of epizootic hemorrhagic disease in free-ranging white-tailed deer today in Eaton—Jackson—Van Buren—Washtenaw counties. Officials stated the virus is fatal to deer but poses no risk to humans or pets and that venison from affected areas is safe to eat. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor City Council approved $108,500 on Tuesday, Sept.2 for the purchase of a 0.26-acre lot along Fuller Road to join the Furstenberg Nature Area—renowned for its hiking trails and wildlife. The purchase, pending satisfactory title work, a survey, and an environmental assessment, will secure public access and support long-term park management. MLive

- ➤ Michigan transportation officials said the state will not resume plans for the I-73 corridor because current funding is needed to repair aging roads and bridges. While Ohio is spending $1.5 million to study its portion, Michigan lawmakers focus on boosting revenue ahead of the 2026 budget deadline — a step to address decades of underinvestment. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan are partnering on a $12.7 million project to install advanced C-V2X technology at 51 spots in the city to make travel safer and smoother. The project started in 2024 and will run into 2027 — it uses federal funds along with a small local cost that will be mostly reimbursed as part of the Ann Arbor Connected Environment Reimagined Project. - ➤ Michigan Wolverines defensive coordinator Wink Martindale said he does not fully understand the targeting rule after linebacker Jaishawn Barham was suspended for a helmet-to-helmet hit and will miss the first half of Saturday’s game at Oklahoma.
